Studied at Kunstschule, Karlsruhe and Berlin 1925-29. Representative of "New Objectivity" or "Magic Realism". Winner of Rome-Prize, 1933, Kassel-Prize, 1937, Silver Medal of Graphic Work of the World Exhibition, Paris 1937, Drexel-Prize, Nuremberg 1960. Scholar of Albrecht-Dürer-Foundation, 1933. Exhibition at Coburger Kunstverein, 1955, Heidelberger Kunstverein, 1967, Städtische Galerie, Karlsruhe 2007, Das Verborgene Museum, Berlin 2007. Participated at "German Realist Drawings of the 1920s", Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, Harvard University, Cambridge, Staatsgalerie, Stuttgart, 1986, "Das wahre Gesicht unserer Zeit.
