Augustin Tschinkel

AUGUSTIN TSCHINKEL

Born 1905 in Prague – died 1983 in Cologne.
Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, 1921-1924. Member of the artists' group "Die Gruppe progressiver K√ľnstler" ("The Group of Progressive Artists") founded by Franz Wilhelm Seiwert and Heinrich Hoerle, other members were Otto Freundlich, Gerd Arntz and August Sander, Cologne 1920-1933. Collaboration with "Das Gesellschafts- und Wirtschaftsmuseum" ("Museum of Society and Economy") under the directorship of Gerd Arntz, Vienna 1929-1930. Contributions in "A bis Z" 1930-1933 the periodical of the group. Participated in the exhibition "Politische Konstruktivisten. Die Progressiven 1919-1933", Berlin 1975. One-man exhibition "Augustin Tschinkel. Grafiek, Illustraties, Typografie", Haags Gemeentemuseum, Den Haag 1976. Tschinkel is an author of numerous books and articles about art and design.
