Born 1905 in Prague – died 1983 in Cologne.
Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, 1921-1924. Member of the artists' group "Die Gruppe progressiver Künstler" ("The Group of Progressive Artists") founded by Franz Wilhelm Seiwert and Heinrich Hoerle, other members were Otto Freundlich, Gerd Arntz and August Sander, Cologne 1920-1933. Collaboration with "Das Gesellschafts- und Wirtschaftsmuseum" ("Museum of Society and Economy") under the directorship of Gerd Arntz, Vienna 1929-1930. Contributions in "A bis Z" 1930-1933 the periodical of the group. Participated in the exhibition "Politische Konstruktivisten. Die Progressiven 1919-1933", Berlin 1975. One-man exhibition "Augustin Tschinkel. Grafiek, Illustraties, Typografie", Haags Gemeentemuseum, Den Haag 1976. Tschinkel is an author of numerous books and articles about art and design.
