Began to paint self-taught, 1923. Participated at the „Salon des Indépendants“, Paris 1928. Co-founder of the group „Abstraction-Création“, Paris 1931. First solo show Galerie Pierre, Paris 1932; John Becker Gallery, New York 1933. Settled in USA, 1936. Exhibited in Paris and USA; Retrospective at the Peggy Guggenheim’s Gallery „Art of This Century“, New York 1943. Returned to Paris, 1946.
